Position Description

The Department of Art & Art History at The University of Mississippi invites applications for an Visiting Assistant Professor of Art History beginning August 21, 2025. This temporary position is 9-month, annually renewable for up to two years, full-time, non-tenure-track, and benefits-eligible. It requires the Ph.D. in Art History or in a closely related field by the time of appointment. Candidates will possess a commitment and ability to teach art history survey courses, Twentieth-Century Art, Contemporary Art, and Writing and Research in Art. The anticipated teaching load is three classes per semester, including both in-person and online courses.

 

Candidates will work with undergraduate students in the BA in Art History, the BA in Art, the BFA in Art, and with non-art majors, as well as with graduate students pursuing the MFA in Studio Art. The primary responsibilities for this position include teaching art history courses at both the lower and upper divisions, advising and mentoring students in the program both academically as well as with career preparation, and performing service appropriate to the position, including recruitment and participation in shared governance. The Department of Art and Art History is accredited by NASAD (the National Association of Schools of Art & Design).

Minimum Qualifications

It requires the Ph.D. in Art History or in a closely related field by the time of appointment. Candidates will possess a commitment and ability to teach art history survey courses, Twentieth-Century Art, Contemporary Art, and Writing and Research in Art.
